The Importance of Play

Those fun toys you see in the baby stores are for more than just keeping baby entertained while you wait in line at the grocery store or in a waiting room. They serve a vital development role, especially in the first 3 years of life.

Play is the way baby learns about his or her body and the world around them. Play is vital for skill development, social development and imagination. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) play is important for healthy brain development and child driven play allows parents to fully engage with their kids.

Keep in mind that not all play is created equal, at each stage of life baby’s developmental needs are different and are best stimulated by different types of toys and play. If you want to see what your baby’s needs are at each stage here is a good resource to bookmark.
